Project Description
In order to support climate planning projects emerging in Washington State a technical guidance document describing extreme coastal water level magnitudes in a return frequency framework as assembled and published in 2019. The guidance was intended to be used with sea level projections, specifically to support sea level rise mapping. The information was subsequently used to develop sea level rise inundation maps for climate planning processes for the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, and the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe
Key Successes
Development of updated maps and published community documents, but no specific planning outcomes as of yet
Challenges
Its been difficult to communicate many of the processes associated with extreme coastal water level, and its association with sea level rise
